Dana’s House Opens Clear Counseling Center

Mental health counselors play a critical role in helping people who are experiencing mental or emotional problems get their lives back on track. By assessing, diagnosing and treating people who are struggling with mental health issues, counselors assist patients in dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder and other conditions.

To assist not only the youth housed at Dana’s House, but also members within the community, Dana’s House will open the doors to the Clear Counseling Center on April 1, 2020. Staffed with two counselors, the Clear Counseling Center is set to be a major benefit to all who take advantage of the services offered on site and by phone.

Dena Miller, one of the counselors, is joining forces with Dana’s House and is currently also serving as the administrator. Miller received her Associate of Arts from East Arkansas Community College before moving on to receive her Bachelor of Science – Psychology from ASU and then her Master of Science – MS – Mental Health Counseling/Counselor from ASU in 2006. Miller served as a Children’s Therapist at Mid-South Health Systems from August 2004 to December 2015 and then moved on to work as the Utilization Coordinator at Perimeter Healthcare – Integrated Behavioral Health.

“Mental health is an issue everyone deals with and I personally think it’s for everyone. That’s the thing I’m most passionate about, it can be for everyone and it’s something beautiful to see when you see the change in people, and they become their best selves,” Stated Miller.

Joining along with Miller, will be Helen Jennings-Hood. Hood received her Bachelor of Arts – BA – Philosophy from ASU in 2015 and then she returned to ASU earning a Specialist’s of Education degree in Psychology and Counseling: Mental Health Counseling. With more than 700 hours of supervised clinical practice, Hood is knowledgeable in course materials that cover group therapy, psychopathology, professional ethics, couples and family counseling, crisis counseling, and psychopharmacology. Hood worked at Mid-South Health Systems as a Child & Adolescent Outpatient Therapist from 2018 – 2019 before joining Perimeter Healthcare – Integrated Behavioral Health in 2019.

Hood is also the Founder and Therapist with The Daring Space, which provides a space where the client can dare to be their best self. Offering a completely online private practice that works with individuals and couples who struggle with grief, trauma, and hard life transitions, Hood’s goal is to assist her client’s in being their best.

Dana’s House is honored to have Miller and Hood join their team. Chandler Boyd-Mathews stated, “Dana’s House and the Board are excited to have them here.” He went on to say, “Dana’s House wouldn’t be here without the community and this is just one way that we can give back to the community.”

The Clear Counseling Center will open on April 1, 2020 and will be open five days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A counselor will be in office every day, but along with in office visits, online counseling sessions can also be booked. An after-hours line will also be implemented for those who need a session outside of business hours. Sessions typically are scheduled for one-hour slots, but session times are flexible, and Miller and Hood will accommodate most scheduling requests.

If you would like to schedule an appointment, call (870) 946-8303 or stop by the office to get your session scheduled.
