Governor Hutchinson Announces Closure of School For the Remainder of the School Year

During his press conference on Monday, April 6, 2020, Governor Hutchinson announced that public schools will be closed for on-site instructions through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Students will continue to complete school work online and school districts will be busy working on plans to finish out the school year.

Governor Hutchinson also announced that one new county had been added to the positive cases list, and that was Izard County.

Dr. Smith announced that there were a total of 875 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas, with 1-4 of those being in Arkansas County.

The breakdown by age reported by Dr. Smith was:

Children ages 18 and Under = 2.3%

19-24 = 6.7%

25-44 = 30.3%

45-64 = 34.9%

65+ = 25.7%

31.6 % have underlying health conditions, 74 were hospitalized with 22 on ventilators.

Dr. Smith confirmed that of the 875 cases, there are 122 healthcare workers including 15 physicians, 36 nurses and 15 CNAs and 59 nursing home residents that have tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 12,824 tests have been performed, with 11,970 of those being negative results. Of the 875 confirmed cases, 16 deaths and 102 recoveries were reported.

Arkansas County has remained in the 1-4 category since first being placed on the map with its first positive case. As of 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2020, a total of 19 negative cases were reported by the Arkansas Department of Health.
