Reydell Baptist Church Seeking Information in Destruction of Church Sign

by Charlotte Purdy

Members of Reydell Baptist Church enjoyed their regular Sunday morning service on Sunday, August 9, 2020. Typically, church services are held on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings and Wednesday evenings, but due to COVID-19, members of the church only meet for services on Sunday mornings.

On Monday, August 10, 2020, a member of the church was driving by and noticed that the church sign had been destroyed sometime after dark on Sunday. When assessing the damage, it appeared that a vehicle had driven off the road, through the ditch and hit the sign leaving it demolished.

Jefferson County Sheriffs Department was called in to take a report, but that didn’t ease the heaviness left in the hearts of those who attend church services at Reydell Baptist Church. Mary Ann Dumond stated, “It is the only remaining historical community building and the oldest church still in use in Reydell. The sign was placed in 1991 when the church was 60 years old.”

Church members are asking that if anyone has any information on the destruction to report the information to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. In the meantime, anyone who would like to donate funds to help cover costs of replacing the sign can send their donations to: Reydell Baptist Church, PO Box 92, Reydell, AR 72133.
