Donations Being Accepted to Purchase Flags for Community Cemeteries

by Charlotte Purdy

Over the Memorial Day holiday, many people drove through the DeWitt Cemetery to pay their respects to the service members buried in the cemetery as well as to admire the larger flags waving freely in the breeze. Those flags were made possible by Johnny and Audrey Purdy and have been placed at DeWitt Cemetery for the past few years.

The American Legion Brown-Wright Post #158 began placing flags at the cemeteries years ago, and continue to make sure each cemetery in southern Arkansas County have flags for Memorial Day. However, those flags are not as easy to see when driving by as the larger ones at DeWitt Cemetery.

Now, the American Legion Auxiliary Brown-Wright Unit #158 wants to change that and raise funds to purchase the larger flags for the remaining cemeteries. Community members can make donations to the fundraiser by contacting Audrey Purdy at (870) 830-2379, Rhonda Boyd at (870) 946-6028, Perry Simpson at (870) 509-3262, or by mailing donations to American Legion Auxiliary Unit #158, 1625 S. Whitehead Dr., DeWitt, AR, 72042.

Anyone can contribute to the fundraiser and no amount is too small!
