DeWitt Senior Center Hosts Halloween Dance Party
Did you know that research shows that “compared with their peers, senior center participants have higher levels of health, social interaction, and life satisfaction"? The same research shows that older adults who participate in senior center programs experience measurable improvements in their physical, social, spiritual, emotional, mental, and economic well-being. ncoa.org
The DeWitt Senior Center held a Halloween Dance Party on Friday, October 29, 2022, from 6-9pm and it was evident that it boosted the spirits of all who attended. Having a place where senior citizens can gather together with others to enjoy their company is important, and the DeWitt Senior Citizens Center unquestionably provides just the right space.
The cost to enter the Halloween party was $3 per person or $5 per couple. As attendees entered the center, they were greeted with a spookily decorated room with a dance floor area and friendly faces, some hiding behind masks.
“This is the first fundraiser we have had this year. We haven’t been able to host one since COVID shut everything down,” stated Johnny Sue Davis. Davis went on to say, “These fundraisers help us raise the funds needed to build our parade floats and host future events. We are thrilled that we are able to host them again.”
To help raise more money during their event, bowls of homemade chili, Frito chili pies, hot dogs, chili dogs, and cookies or cupcakes were available for purchase, and chances to guess how much a pumpkin weighed and how many tootsie rolls were in a canister were sold for $1 each.
Some of the attendees arrived in their Halloween costumes and entered to win the costume contest while others attended simply to enjoy a great evening with everyone while supporting the Center’s fundraiser.
Winners of the costume contest were: 1st Place: Teresa Cupples, 2nd Place: Prentis Davis
Winner of the pumpkin weight guess was: Teresa Cupples
Winner of the tootsie roll guess was: Faith Rowland
However, everyone who attended was a winner! They enjoyed the delicious food, each other’s company, games, and dancing to songs that put the rhythm in their steps.
If you were unable to attend the event and would like to make a monetary donation to the DeWitt Senior Center to help fund future events, crafts, and other needs, you can drop your donation off at Stone Bank into the DeWitt Senior Center Craft Fund, contact Johnny Sue Davis at the Senior Citizens Center at (870) 691*2311, or send your donations to DeWitt Senior Citizens Center, P.O.
