Doris Clemons

September 27, 2023

Doris Clemons, 78, of DeWitt passed away on September 16, 2023. Doris was born Doris Jean Evans on March 02, 1945, in Monroe County to Annie Belle Mummell and Charlie Evans. She would live in Blackton most of her adult life surrounded by family. She was blessed with four daughters, Donna, Teresa, Barbara, and Sandra. Doris was a widow before she met David Clemons. She married David Otis Clemons in September 1986 and spent the rest of his life with him, raising a large garden every year, taking rides in their van, and always having their Pepsi. She made sure her yard was full of beautiful flowers. They would attend Monroe Baptist Church.

After David passed, she moved to Dewitt with her sister Mary Ann, where she lived for some years. In 2003, she decided she wanted to move into the nursing home. Doris enjoyed the activities and social life she would have there. She participated in every activity that was presented, even being crowned Queen once. She did make many new friends there. She even still cooked Thanksgiving dinner!

She depended on her niece Martha Ferguson for some years later in life, and she was particularly fond of her CNA Marsha at Dewitt City Nursing Home. She had found a companion in a man named David who she talked about like a schoolgirl.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband David Clemons; her mother Annie Belle; her father Charlie; her daughter Donna; and one grandson Jonathan. She is survived by her daughters Teresa Caldwell, Sandra Spradlin, and Barbara Caldwell, all of Forrest City; sister Mary Moore of Alabama and sister Rose Gerard of Lonoke, AR; and one brother Charles Evans of Southaven, MS.

She has 3 grandchildren, Crystal French of Brinkley, AR, Cynthia (Vaughan) Roy of Brinkley, AR, Misty (Tyler) Stokes, of Helena, AR. There are too many nieces and nephew and great-grandchildren to count and name.

A memorial service was held at 2:00 on September 24 at Essex Funeral Home, 1405 S. Grandview Dr., DeWitt, AR 72042. With a meal following after at Dewitt Community Center, #1 Ron Fowler Park Lane, Dewitt, AR 72042. www.essexfuneralhome.com
