American Legion Post #158 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #158 Host Boys & Girls State Hamburger Supper

by Charlotte Purdy

On Thursday, September 7, the American Legion Post #158 and American Legion Auxiliary Post #158 hosted a hamburger supper for the Boys State and Girls State delegates, and their families, at Camp Doughboy. Those who attended enjoyed hamburgers with all of the fixings, decadent desserts, and listening to what each of the delegates learned while attending the summer leadership events.

The American Legion Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program is set up to teach the delegates how the government works. The chosen delegates develop leadership skills and an appreciation of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. They were able to run for office, learn more about public speaking, and develop a confidence that will assist in shaping their future. Each of the chosen delegates represent the top talent of that age year and to be chosen to represent their city is a tremendous honor.

The Boys State delegates for the year are: Reece Barnett, Carter Hearn, and Josh Haynes. The Girls State delegates for the year are: Miranda Nelson, Anna Rose Hall, Kristen Sneed, Tori Rodgers, Savanna Russell, Kaylen Phillips, Lydia Wright, Jaden Steeland, and Addison Yancey.
