Spending time on the USS Henderson and the USS Sylvania, he received sailor of the month on the latter for saving countless lives from pending friendly fire while on tour in the Vietnam War.

He returned stateside in 1973 and started his career with Blue Seal Petroleum shortly afterward. He attended a local dance with his future wife, after being introduced to her by his mother. Realizing that he and Ann were soulmates, the young couple married on July 28, 1973, in DeWitt, AR. Their blossoming love produced three children, Michael, Clint, and Tara, and would span 47 years of marriage until Ann's untimely passing in 2020.

Darrell and Ann built their dream country home in 1979, and they planted hundreds of trees, grew countless gardens, and loved watching the flourishing wildlife at their home.

Darrell loved interacting with his customers in his 40+ years at Blue Seal Petroleum. He also was an avid sportsman who loved catfishing, squirrel hunting, training dogs, or waiting in that deer stand for a massive buck to make his presence known.

Darrell was always a family man of solid values that was thankful for his military and management experience, along with his cherished times in the Masonic Lodge. He and Ann made many beautiful memories while watching their three children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild play and grow.
