Ricebirds Soar Over Eagles

The Stuttgart Ricebirds travelled to Crossett to play the Eagles on Friday, October 3. The Ricebirds received the kickoff and Q.T. Johnson returned the ball to the 37-yard line. The Birds get to the 3-yard line but the Eagle defense hold, so the Birds go for a field goal. Dawson McKelvey kicks it and the Birds are first on the scoreboard 3-0.
 McKelvey kicks off and the Eagles start at their own 27-yard line. Ricebirds defense force Eagles to punt, and the Birds start on their own 47-yard line.  On fourth and one, QB Cain Price keeps the ball and gets to Eagles 42-yard line. Q.T. Johnson gets to the 31-yard line. Jeremiah Thomas gets to the 24-yard line. Price to Jaymarrion Hoard gets to Birds to the 7-yard line. Price hands off to Thomas for a Ricebird touchdown. PAT is good and Birds are up 10-0.

The Ricebirds defense holds and Eagles have to punt again. Keaton Byers returns the punt to the 44-yard line.  Birds drive down and on second and one, Price keeps and scores. The PAT is good and the Birds stretch their lead to 17-0.

A fumble on the kickoff gives the Birds back the ball on the 34-yard line of the Eagles. In three plays they score again and the PAT is good. With 1:45 left in the first quarter, Birds are up 24-0.

Birds attempt an onside kick and are able to recover it and are first and 10 from the Crossett 42-yard line. While the referees call two penalties against the Birds to back them up to the 49-yard line, they completely miss the flagrant penalty by Eagles where two Eagle players hit a Ricebird after he is well out of bounds. Having succeeded that time, the Eagle player knocks Price down after he is out of bounds and finally a flag from officials. Price connects with Q.T. for another Ricebird touchdown. PAT is good and the Ricebirds stretch their lead to 31-0.

As the first quarter ends, Eagles take over at their own 37-yard line. They get to the 22-yard line. A penalty against the Birds gets them to the 11, where Keaton Byers intercepts and Birds take over. Price connects with Q.T. Johnson, who takes it to the house. The PAT is good and Birds lead 38-0

Eagles take over at their own 37-yard line, where a delay of game backs them up more. A fumble that Cordero Berry scoops and scores again for the Birds with 5:21 left to go in the first half. 45-0 Birds.

After McKelvey's kick, the Eagles start at their own 2-yard line. The Birds take over at the Crossett 44-yard line. Price connects with Bray Covington-Minor, who takes to the 11-yard line. Price to Byers for another Ricebird touchdown. The PAT is good. 52-0 Ricebirds. as the half ends.

The mercy rule comes into play, meaning the clock doesn't stop. The Birds kick off to Eagles, and the receiving player catches the ball at the 10-yard line and takes it to the house for an Eagle touchdown. The PAT is good. 52-7 Ricebirds

The Eagles hold the Ricebirds and Eagles get the ball back and march do wn for a touchdown and PAT. With 5:50 left in the third quarter the score is 52-14 Birds.

Bradley Benton comes in at quarterback as the third quarter ends. Birds have to punt and McKelvey's kick is to the 11-yard line of the Eagles. Two plays later, the Eagles QB takes it 39 yards for a touchdown. The PAT is no good. 52-20 Birds with 3:47 left in the game.

Tristan Robinson takes the kick off at the 23-yard line and takes it to the house. 58-20 Ricebirds at the end of the game.
