Ricebirds Shutdown Miners

The Stuttgart Ricebirds shut down the Bauxite Miners on Friday, Nov. 28, in the game at Ned Moseley Stadium. The Ricebirds receive the kickoff but the Miners defense holds and Birds have to punt. The Miners move the ball right down the field and score. 0-7 Miners

The Ricebirds answer with their own touchdown in two plays. 7-7 as the second quarter begins. The Miners come right back with their own, taking the lead again. 7-14

Cain Price to Q.T. Johnson to the 12 yard line, then a touchdown in two plays. 14-14. The Ricebird defense digs in and Bauxite has to punt. With the wind blowing against them, the punt is seven yards. Birds take over at the Bauxite 30 yard line. The Miner defense holds and Dawson McKelvey comes on to score a field goal and Birds have the lead. 17-14

The Ricebird defense showed up and showed out and Birds take over on downs. Tyquan Hall has a 38 yard reception and then the Ricebirds score again, stretching the lead to 24-14.

The Ricebird defense again keeps the Miners from gaining and take over again. Miner defense digs in and keeps the Ricebirds from a touchdown, but they can’t do anything about Dawson McKelvey’s leg. Another field goal by McKelvey and Birds are 27-14.

Ricebird defense forces Miners to punt and Keaton Byers returns it for another touchdown. 34-14 Birds

The Ricebird defense shuts down the Miners again in the third quarter and they have to punt. It is looking tough for the Birds after Price is taken down for a loss. On third and 38, Price connects with Tyquan Hall to the one yard line. Price dives over to the end zone. 41-14 Birds.

Miners fumble and Birds recover with six minutes left in the game. Another touchdown for Price. 48-14 Birds.

The Miners finally answer with a touchdown of their own. 48-21 Ricebirds as the play clock runs out. Birds are headed to the semi-finals in state. They will meet Elkin at Ned Moseley stadium on Friday, December 5. Tickets must be purchased online at gofan.co/event/5522895.
