Garrett Sheeks Announces Libertarian Candidacy for District 61
District 61 — Garrett Sheeks has officially announced his candidacy as the Libertarian nominee for District 61, pledging to offer voters a principled alternative rooted in individual liberty, government transparency, and constitutional governance.
A lifelong Arkansan raised in Arkansas County and shaped by the small business community of Stuttgart, Sheeks brings a deep appreciation for history, economics, technology, and civic responsibility to his campaign. He now reenters the contest with what he describes as a renewed commitment to reform and accountability.
“District 61 deserves a representative who believes that political power belongs to the people—not to parties, political insiders, or entrenched interests,” Sheeks said. “I am running to ensure every citizen has a voice, regardless of party affiliation.”
Central to Sheeks’ campaign is a call for expanded government transparency. He has pledged to work toward reopening portions of the state’s Freedom of Information framework that have been narrowed in recent years, while advocating for stronger public access and oversight.
His platform also emphasizes criminal justice reform, including a reexamination of qualified immunity policies; protection of civil and constitutional rights; education reform; and a broader discussion about taxation and regulatory burdens on Arkansas families and small businesses.
Sheeks argues that growing public frustration with one-party dominance has created an opportunity for a more balanced and accountable approach to governance.
“Our state was once proudly known as the Land of Opportunity,” Sheeks stated. “That opportunity must include the freedom to live, work, and build a future without unnecessary government interference. My campaign is about restoring trust, strengthening transparency, and reaffirming that liberty remains the foundation of good government.”
The general election will be held on November 3rd, 2026.
