“The Victorious Savior"

by Tom Smith

“And, as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, ‘Why do you seek the living among the dead?  He is not here, He is risen’.”
Luke 24:5-6a
How silently His Body lay
In that tomb near Calvary’s hill;
There was no life or breath within,
No movement as it lay still.
His mother had kissed His blood-stained Face
As she left the tomb that night;
Like a sword that pierced to the depths of her soul,
Was her pain and sorrow at the sight:
The sight of her Son’s lifeless body
And no movement in His limbs;
Yes, no longer could she hear His sweet Voice,
And know that it was truly Him.
So off she ran to weep in a hidden room
As she grieved over her now-gone Child;
Never again would she be able to talk with Him
Or gaze upon His winsome smile.
But, something happened that Sunday morning
As they neared the place of the dead:
For the angels said “He is not here;

“He is risen just as He said!”
Yes, the tomb was empty and His Body was gone,
Leaving them all to tremble in fright;
But, later their sorrow would be turned into Joy
When they saw Him alive on that Sunday night.
“Peace, be still; be not afraid!”
He said as He suddenly appeared.
“I am alive now and forevermore
“And will free you from all your fear.”
How wonderful this life-changing News
For all who look to Jesus in Faith:
For He’s the Christ, the Risen Lord,
Who’ll always hold us in His tender embrace.
