Arkansas Post 1686 to Mid 1700’s

by Dyan Bohnert

Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. the “Larry Fortune History Associates” met at the Casscoe Community Center. The speaker was Dyan Bohnert. She spoke on “the role women played at early Arkansas Post.” Bohnert had lots of things to show, 10 different baskets and what they were used for, how the women made a pattern from string then made a full set of clothes for her family.
Bohnert showed and talked about food and medicine, cooking that food and the health of  the settlers. She showed homemade marbles, playing cards, and dice.
“The French settlers liked to have their fun, frequently,” Bohnert said.
After the program, there was a short business meeting. They discussed their role in the Casscoe Community Bar-B-Que on May 2, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. They invite you to bring a lawn chair and join them.
