Master Gardeners Gear Up for Annual Plant Sale on April 25

by Submitted by Phil Horton, County Extension Agent - Agriculture

The Arkansas County Master Gardeners discussed plans for their Annual Plant Sale at their recent meeting.  President Pat Kizzire announced the Plant Sale will be held at the Arkansas County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 25.  Doors will open to the public for sales from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon.   Customers will be able to choose from a wide variety of plants to add to their home landscape and garden.  Plants will be available for sun or shade, and will include annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and more.  Each Master Gardener will provide a minimum of 15 plants.   Door Prize drawings will be held throughout the sale and it was decided that members will not be eligible to win a door prize.  Several members volunteered to provide snacks for the refreshment stand.

In preparation for the Plant Sale, members have been busy holding workshops to paint decorative plant pots and concrete stepping stones which will be for purchase at the Plant Sale.  Theresa Dupuy volunteered to sew Tote Bags using waterproof feed sacks for the Plant Sale, and encouraged anyone with sacks to donate to drop them off at the Extension Office.  Patricia Murray indicated she has plans in the works for the Kiddie Korner to allow children attending to take a plant home with them.

It was reported that several members from Arkansas County have registered to attend the State Master Gardener Conference at Conway in June.  A hydrangea propagating workshop was planned for April 18 with Merle Anders volunteering his time and plants to aid members in learning how to propagate plants.

Reports on each of the Project Beds across the county were given.  Work Days have been held at most sites as the weather has allowed.  Delicious refreshments were provided by Tammy Haney, Pam Campbell and others.  The next meeting will be held May 18 in Stuttgart.
