Stuttgart DiamondBirds split with Trumann
Game 1
Stuttgart 8 Trumann 5
The DiamondBirds were victorious over the Trumann Wildcats 8-5 on Tuesday, April 7. Nathan Spoon earned the win. The sophomore hurler surrendered five hits and five runs striking out five and walking four over six innings. Axton McCrea collected the save.
Brilon Hogan led the team with two hits in four at bats. Dagan Duncan and Hogan each hit doubles while Austin Fontenot and Jay Griffin singled. RBI’s were produced by Dagan Duncan, Brilon Hogan, Hayden Prine, Harper Feilke, and Jay Griffin.
Game 2
Stuttgart 5 Trumann 8
Stuttgart fell to Trumann 5-8 in Thursday's matchup at home. Stuttgart had the lead going into the top of the seventh but could not secure the win. Untimely hits, errors and mental miscues allowed the Wildcats to tie the game. It took ten innings before Trumann defeated the Birds.
Offensively, the DiamondBirds tallied four hits. Braxton Kirkdoffer tripled, Hayden Prine doubled and Austin Fontenot and Nathan Spoon singled. Prine and Beau Barnes hit deep for RBI’s.
Jay Griffin, starting pitcher for Stuttgart, gave up just two hits, and one run over five and two thirds innings striking out three with seven free bases.
The DiamondBirds are 3-1 in conference play and face conference rivalry, the Lonoke Jackrabbits this week. They play at home Tuesday at 5 pm and at Lonoke on Thursday. Come out to support your Stuttgart Ricebirds.
