Strange Complaints

by Michael Jones

I have come to the conclusion that I have an addictive personality, at least when it comes to beverages.
Throughout my life I was a very avid soda enthusiast. So much so that at the time of the closing of the printed version of the Daily Leader, I was probably drinking at least 6 bottles of diet soda per day at a minimum.
Then, when my body decided it simply could not handle that much carbonation, I switched over to sugar free iced tea. Want to guess how much of that I ended up drinking per day?
A gallon.
For years I was drinking about a gallon of iced tea per day until I noticed my heart was not a fan of that much caffeine.
So I stopped.
Instead I turned towards flavored water, which at the time was easily found at Walmart.. until it was no longer carried. Fortunately Cash Saver still carries it but as you can probably guess NOT at the rates I find myself drinking it.
This is why the cashiers are used to seeing me wander in almost every day to see if they received a shipment in. I’m like a junkie looking for a fix… which is kind of what I am I suppose.
Another thing I’ve found myself addicted to are Frozen Cokes.
Lord, once I found out I could have the caffeine and flavor of a coke WITHOUT the carbonation, I basically ramped up that old addiction again. It is a rare day that I do not have at least one per day.
There were days I had more than one.
Drag that out over a year and I’ve been feeling heavier than usual and feeling like a bloated tick just laying there and it got me thinking.
That’s a lot of sugar every day for at least a year…
Simply plugging in the basic info on my phone tells me that one large Frozen Coke per day is likely to equal 15-16 pounds of additional weight gained in that year.
Sigh.
Whatever weight I’d managed to lose in the years before, I’ve apparently simply drank back onto myself.
So.. once again I am going to go cold turkey and see if I can aim those urges elsewhere.
Any suggestions are appreciated…
