by Dawn Teer

Mrs. Ora Fischer was honored recently for her 50 years of service to Holy Rosary Catholic School and Church.
Fischer is the widow of Jack Fischer. Together they had four children: Janice (Max) Lawton, Rick (Mandy), Karen Fischer, and Cheryl (Tommy) Connally. She has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The grands are: Hayden Fischer, Haley Fischer, Loran Kate Fischer, Logan Connally, Victoria Gill, Olivia Cole, and Avoree  Lawton. Her four great grands are: Harmon Fischer, Ava Gill, Jon Colin Farrell and Alora Fischer.
Fischer started out volunteering at the school, and then was hired as the school secretary. She did the church bulletin after going to work at the school.
Fischer says, “I enjoyed coming to work everyday–not many people can say that. It was a joy.”
Melanie Konecny, a teacher at Holy Rosary said, “She is the sweetest, selfless person I know. I truly don’t know what we will do without her bakes for us and helps the kids with everything. She has always had everything ready when we get here in the morning.”
Ashley Frizzell, also a teacher, said, “She’s like everyone’s grandma. She’s always baking us something. I don't know what we will do without her.”
When baking and food were brought up with the teachers that were gathered for the reception, they hands down agreed and said she makes them pinwheels, peach cobbler, strawberry jam, bread, cinnamon rolls and has coffee ready when they get there in the morning. She can bake anything, according to them.
Emily Karr, another teacher, said, “She is the GOAT (greatest of all time), our backbone.”
“When I think about Holy Rosary, I instantly think of Mrs. Ora. She was the first face to always greet you with a smile, and instantly made me feel right at home my first year here. She cared for every student and staff with such tender, genuine love. You never have to question how much she loves you because she shows it so well. I’ve been blessed to get to know and work along side Mrs Ora and her daily presence will be greatly missed at Holy Rosary.” Said Meg McCarly.
Fischer said, “I have 50 wonderful years and so many memories that I will never forget.”
Father Babu Battula, Priest of Holy Rosary attended and gave her a homemade quilt and presented Fischer with a plaque of appreciation.
Former students, parents, teachers and friends attended the reception.
